In the early 1820s. Peter Robinson, a Canadian official, oversaw the emigration and resettlement of more than 2,500 Irish men , women and children, with support from the British government. Most originated from the Blackwater Valley in North County Cork, and made the transatlantic journey to begin new lives in Ontario, Canada. This book examines the social, educational and political conditions in Ireland that gave rise to this mass migration. It also documents the familes who left and the towns and villages they departed from - providing a valuable resource for historians, genealogists and descendants alike.
